Safari Tipping Guidelines

Wild World Serengeti Safari Guide Updated June 21, 2026 Local Tanzania Advice
Tipping in Tanzania is appreciated but should never feel confusing or pressured. The fairest approach is to budget in advance, tip according to service, and give directly where possible.

Safari Guides

Safari guides carry major responsibility for safety, timing, wildlife tracking, interpretation, and the quality of each day. Many travellers budget per guide per day, then adjust based on group size and service.

Lodge And Camp Staff

Most lodges have a staff tip box shared among housekeeping, kitchen, maintenance, and behind-the-scenes teams. This is often better than tipping only the people you meet at the table.

Kilimanjaro Crews

Mountain teams are larger and include guides, assistant guides, cooks, and porters. Tips are usually collected at the end of the climb and distributed transparently by role. Ask for the crew list so the process is clear.

Currency And Timing

US dollars are widely accepted for tips, but notes should be clean and recent. Tanzanian shillings are also fine. Tip at the end of each service, not at the beginning.

Simple tipping principles

  • Tip only after service is complete
  • Use clean, recent USD notes or Tanzanian shillings
  • Give lodge team tips through the official tip box
  • For Kilimanjaro, distribute by crew role
  • Ask Wild World Serengeti Safaris for current suggested ranges before travel

Wild World Serengeti Safaris note: We can include a tipping estimate in your pre-trip notes so you arrive prepared and avoid last-minute uncertainty.
